A brief snapshot of the most prominent milestones in our accounting firm’s history – from 1979.
Our History
While the financial industry is continually changing and evolving, so too has SBB Partners developed over the years.

1966
SBB Partners history traces its heritage back to the firm G.E. Jones & Co. (est. 1926) in which our founding Partner Bob Bennett was a Partner.

1979
Bob Bennett (since retired) then founded Bennett Partners in Mackay, Queensland.

1987
Darryl Camilleri (since retired) became a partner of Bennett Partners.

1996
David Watts became a partner of Bennett Partners through an offer to acquire his company, DN Watts and Co. This was Bennett Partners first merger, and David continued with Bennett Partners until his retirement in 2012.

1997
Bennett Partners acquired the Mackay-based practice of Michael Kelly.

1997
Chris Sammut became a partner of Bennett Partners when Bob Bennett retired, taking on the majority of Bob’s client base for a smooth transition for our clients, and our business.

2001
Paul Hinton became a partner of Bennett Partners.

2003
Bennett Partners acquired the Greenslopes firm of GN Steel and Co to expand our firm into the Brisbane area.

2005
We acquired another local Mackay firm, Pioneer Accounting, retaining several staff and the strong client base.

2006
Our Brisbane office moved into the city from Greenslopes to Queen Street.

2008
The late Ashley Best became a partner of Bennett Partners, bringing along with him a well-established client base.

2009
Bennett Partners acquired the Brisbane city firm of Bauer Accounting, and Rob Bauer (since retired) became a partner of the expanded Brisbane office.

2012
Therese Scotton and Geoff O’Connor became partners of Bennett Partners.

2013
A further acquisition in November resulted in John Lavis (since retired) becoming a partner, also based in our Brisbane office.

2016
Ryan Leach became a partner of Bennett Partners.

2018
Brenton Lazzarini became a partner of Bennett Partners.

2019
Bennett Partners and Ipswich-based firm Sammut Bulow merged to form SBB Partners currently headed by Director group: Chris Sammut, Paul Hinton, Geoff O’Connor, Brenton Lazzarini and Ryan Leach.

2020
SBB Partners were ranked in the Top 50 accounting firms nationwide.

2021
We purchased, renovated and relocated our Brisbane team to an old church in East Brisbane, creating quite a unique office space.

2021
SBB Partners acquired Ayr-based accounting firm Accounting & Super (Qld) bringing in Karen Quagliata as Partner and her established client base.

2022
SBB Partners acquired Peter M Wilde & Associates, an accounting practice based at Ashmore on the Gold Coast.

2023
SBB Partners acquired Whitsunday-based practice Rekenen Accountants, giving us a footprint in Bowen and Cannonvale. John Finlay has remained as partner of this office alongside Ryan Leach and Therese Scotton.
